Sculptor, engraver and heir to an age-old savoir-faire, along with his family, who have plied their craft for over a century in their Roman workshop, Dante Mortet will turn your hand into a work of art. Starting from a silicone mould, he fills it with wax and allows it to cool, to produce a faithful reproduction. The wax hand is then subtly shaped for greater harmony of form and turned into a sculpture to full effect – cast in bronze, using the ancient lost-wax technique.
After engraving and texturing, the piece is complete. Dante Mortet’s hand sculpture project, Mano Artigiana, is open-ended. The original idea was to reproduce hands as a symbol of making and creating, where the diversity of the various crafts exemplifies the great irreplaceable resource of manual dexterity. To achieve full expression, human ingenuity cannot yet do without this elemental tool.
